Butler’s Teachers of English Learners licensure pathway focuses on the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary for you to support English learners and their families in educational contexts. You’ll learn how to assess and design programs for English learners in courses and extensive field experiences. The program is available to students majoring in Elementary Education or Middle/Secondary Education.

Curriculum

This license may be added to any College Education license pathway regardless of the field of study. Sample courses in this program include:

  • ED 408 – Foundations of Effective Reading Instruction

The Butler Advantage

Butler’s Teachers of English Learners licensure is a 15-credit hour graduate level plan of study that prepares educators to effectively instruct, support, and advocate for English Learners/Emergent Bilingual students. Skills gained through our program, include:

Planning and delivering culturally and linguistically responsive curriculum and instruction.

Assessing and monitoring EL language and academic progress.

Providing research-informed literacy intervention support to ELs.

Integrating academic language development throughout instructional programs.

Differentiating between normal second language acquisition and learning disabilities.
