Experiential Opportunities
The Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences major is one of only a few undergraduate programs that offers our students clinical practicum experience. Students gain valuable foundational skills that provide a strong start to the graduate school training.
The Butler Aphasia Community provides support using the Lifer Participation Approach to Aphasia. Adults with communication challenges meet weekly with supervised student to stimulate language skills.
Our students complete speech, language, and hearing screenings to 200–300 preschool-aged children each semester through the Community Preschool Screening Program.
Qualified students can work with clients who experience communication disorders through our on-campus Speech-Language Clinic.
The Butler Early Language and Literacy program provides a language-enriched environment for preschool children with speech and language delays. Children receive instruction from a licensed speech-language pathologist, a preschool teacher, and Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences students.
