Our Exploratory Education major is a great starter option for students who think they would like to teach or work with youth in a community setting, but aren’t sure which path to take. As a student in this major, you’ll take introductory classes in education, experience the wide variety of educational work and settings available, and participate in assessments to discover your strengths, values, and interests—all with the purpose of unlocking your passion to confidently declare a major that is right for you.

Program Information

Curriculum

Education is a broad field, as varied as our students and their interests. In the Exploratory Education program, students take introductory College of Education core classes to experience a variety of educational settings and developmental levels. Exploratory Education students select a major in Elementary Education, Middle Secondary Education, or Youth and Community Development by their sophomore year.

Sample courses in this program could include:

  • ED 112 – Introduction to Professional Educators
  • ED 245 – Inquiry into Technology
  • ED 242 – Foundations of Special Education
