In a world of rapidly increasing human population, it has never been more important to focus on the environment and our interaction with it. The Environmental Studies major at Butler provides a flexible and rigorous curriculum that challenges you to explore the economic, political, cultural, technological, and scientific facets of environmental issues. Beyond the classroom, you will complete a community-based internship or other real-world experience related to the environment and sustainability. Our multidisciplinary approach, coupled with hands-on experience, prepares you for complex careers in exploration, management, preservation, and conservation of the natural environment.

Program Information

Curriculum

Students majoring in Environmental Studies will analyze and investigate the scientific basis of environmental issues facing both human societies and the rest of the living world in modern times. Sample courses in this program include:

  • ST 200 – Intro to Science and Technology Studies 
  • ENV 200 – Intro to Environmental Studies 
  • ST 205 – Science and Society Speakers Seminar 
  • ENV 330 – Geographic Information Systems

Three-Year Programs
