The BFA in Acting in Butler’s Department of Theatre is specifically intended for the serious undergraduate student who seeks deep actor training that is complemented and supported by production experiences in all aspects of theatre. Students will take courses in acting, voice for the actor, stage movement, design and technology, history, directing, and more.

Students will also participate in a diverse range of productions held in a variety of venues. The mainstage production program includes repertoire from contemporary, classical, musical, international, children’s theatre, devised, and more. Students will also perform in state-of-the-art production spaces, including a 100-seat studio theatre, a 450-seat proscenium theatre, a 350-seat “Greek-style” theatre, and a 2,200-seat theatre.  This program is designed to prepare students for entry into professional acting work and for entry into graduate MFA Acting programs.

Unique to Butler’s Department of Theatre is the ability for students to choose between the BFA in Acting and the BA in Theatre. If a student is admitted to the Department of Theatre, they make the decision as to which degree program they want to pursue—and can change their mind throughout their time at Butler. We support and empower our students to develop their individual student voice and to choose their own path to success.
