Michelle Stigter
Senior Lecturer - German, Modern Language Center
I love teaching at Butler! Every day, I have the privilege of collaborating with students as we explore new languages and cultures, think critically about important issues, and build the skills needed to thrive—both at Butler and beyond. Together, we are co-creators of knowledge.
In the 2025–2026 academic year, I’ll be teaching the beginning German sequence, the first semester of intermediate German, and the Modern Languages Senior Keystone course. I’ll also lead two sections of the First Year Seminar titled “So, where are you from?”, which also fulfills the Indianapolis Community Requirement. Additionally, I’m excited to join Dr. Jane Siegler and students from the Lacy School of Business on a fall break study abroad trip to Munich and Prague.
Maxine Greene writes, “…the world perceived from one place is not the world.” That insight resonates deeply. It reminds us why it’s essential to remain open to new possibilities by asking difficult questions, learning new languages, and engaging with cultures beyond our comfort zones.
We are all agents of change in an interconnected, ever-evolving world. My goal is to help students discover their voice and purpose so that we can all become civically engaged citizens of the world. Kermit the Frog wisely teaches, “…life is better when we leap together.”
NOTE: Student hours on Tuesdays are via Zoom. Please email me for the link. Student hours on Wednesdays are at Starbucks on the patio or inside depending on the weather. Come visit, play a game, and enjoy some gummi bears.
